Introduction

 

NECOFA has been collaboration with CARE International, World Vision, GTZ ECASARD and RURAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT ORGANSATION (RUDSO) and some Secondary Schools in Kumasi in the field of training.

 

NECOFA is now trying to become service provider.

 

Membership

 

Currently there are over 100 registered members from Brong Ahafo, Ashanti, Greater Accra, Volta and Western Regions.   These are mostly Agricultural Extension Officers and other NGOs.

 

Office accomodation

 

NECOFA Ghana operates from the office of the country representative in Sunyani.

 

Registration of NECOFA as an NGO

 

This could not be done due to the high cost of registration however this would be done in the near future when funds are available.

 

Activities

 

NECOFA trained 22 American Peace Corps in some Eco-farming technologies

 

 

 

Objectives

 

The main objective of the training was to introduce ecological farming as new concept of farming.  It was also to introduce some new technologies in tomato cultivation and conservation.

 

Topics of the training

 

  1. What is ecological farming
  2. Development trends in ecological farming
  3. Characteristics of appropriate ecological farming
  4. The way forward for control and certification of organic foods in Ghana
  5. Organic cultivation of tomatoes
  6. Household processing and conservation of tomatoes

 

259 staff of Ministry of Food and Agriculture benefited from the training.
